Extreme Heat: Municipal Cooling Station Opened July 31st Until Further Notice

Due to the current heat wave the Municipality is opening its cooling station located at 6020 Highway 542 in Mindemoya, ON. The location is open from 8:30am - 4:30 pm Monday to Friday.

The station will open July 31st, 2024 until further notice. 

Environment Canada issued the following alert Wednesday July 31st, 2024 at 11:24 am.

Description


A heat event is expected to begin today and continue through Friday.

A humid airmass is expected to arrive today, with humidex values of 36 to 38.

A cooler airmass may arrive by Friday night.

Extreme heat can affect everyone’s health.

The health risks are greater for older adults, infants and young children, pregnant people, people with physical and/or mental illnesses, and people with disabilities or mobility issues.

Heat warnings are issued when very high temperature or humidity conditions are expected to pose an elevated risk of heat illnesses, such as heat stroke or heat exhaustion.

Recommended Action


Drink plenty of water regularly, even before you feel thirsty to decrease your risk of dehydration. Thirst is not a good indicator of dehydration.

Never leave people, particularly children, or pets inside a parked vehicle.
